Trends for 2010 range from bold and bright to homespun chic. Anything goes this year!
Wedding Gowns:
1950s Flair think high necklines, big tulle skirts and tea-length a huge trend right now. Really exudes romance from years past. It captures a youthful innocence while still look hot for 2010.
Bold one shoulder looks. Statement pieces on one shoulder like a large flower or bow stand out and asymmetrical necklines are key. If you are looking to make an entrance this is definitely the way to go!
Flowers add great detail. Small detailed ones covering the dress are eye-catching. Or opt for one large bloom placed at the hip or on a shoulder to stick with the trend. Definitely a fun romantic look.
Bows and sashes. Both are very big this year. They can be slouchy or very constructed. If going for a one-shoulder look a bow on the shoulder is a great option. This is definitely a fun look and it is an easy way to incorporate color with a sash.
Black detailing in the form of delicate flowers, bold bows or sashes, hemlines. Carry this through other aspects of the wedding to tie it all together. Think black accents in centerpieces and accessories.
Shiny statement. Gold and silver touches make for a unique and fashion forward look. Carry the look through with other details in the wedding. Metallics with muted shades are a great look.
Sheer straps are very hot for this year. It gives you coverage but is still soft and delicate. Also available in a variety of necklines from v-neck to one-shoulder. It is a sweet but sexy look and very in!
It's your big day and as long as you feel fabulous you'll definitely be trendy!
Catering:
Cocktail reception. Have a cocktail party, with heavy hors d'oeuvres and food stations. Keep it fun and interactive, this will have guests up and on their feet the whole night. If going with a dj stick with music that completes the theme.
Food stations are a big trend this year. But we're not talking your standard pasta station, think sushi or stir-fry stations. Chefs cooking up made to order meals are a great option. We tried out our own version during a recent event and it was a huge success! Guests get to choose what the want and it will keep them coming back for more.
Plan on having a reception that goes into the wee hours? Have some late night treats for guests. Milk and cookies, serve the milk in high ball glasses with pirouette cookies for updated twist. Or have an ice cream cart with all the fixings. A taco cart is another great option.
More than just wedding cake. Many couples are including more desserts to accompany the wedding cake. Chocolate covered strawberries served on ceramic spoons are elegant. Serve a variety of truffles with slices of cake. Or have a dessest station like a s'mores stand. Guests will love the variety of sweets!
Photo booths are on the rise. They get guests interacting and not only does it make for a great favor but also adds entertainment. Include props for guests to make their photos unique, having a beach wedding...include goggles and beach balls. Old hollywood, feather boas are a great choice.
Allover lighting will really wow guests! It will transfrom the room into something completely different. Project shapes, or even leaves falling for a romantic fall wedding. Lighting will add a whole new dimension to your reception.
Out of the ordinary music. Treat guests to a new sound, something completely unexpected. Perhaps a jazz trio or Spanish guitarist would be a great way to go. Or if you are having a rustic wedding, maybe a bluegrass band would suit your style. Everyone will be up on their feet for hours to come with any of these choices. This is the year to break the traditional rules of playing it safe with music.
Choreographed dances are huge this year. Many couples are looking to surprise guests with unexpected dance numbers. Choose a fun song and head to a local dance choreographer to help put it all together. Maybe even think of getting the bridal party or grandparents involved. It will lighten the mood and definitely bring the fun!

Invitations can be overwhelming to say the least but have no fear, here are some ways to keep your cool during the process.
1. Keep in mind how much they cost. Invitations can become very costly depending on material and printing process. Take into account how much you are willing to spend on invites and really consider if you need all the coordinating cards that go along with it such as reception card, menu and program cards, etc. You could always use a nice cardstock that coordinates with the invites and print your own programs. Do not forget to factor stamps into the price as well, many couples overlook this and then realize to send out 100 invites will require 200 stamps.
2. Print the return and outgoing address on the envelope using your own printer. This is a great cost effective way and saves you the trouble of actually writing them all out. Some printers have templates to ease this process or ask someone who is computer savvy. Use a font that coordinates with the overall theme of the wedding, the more formal the affair the more formal font you'll want.
3. Have an A and B list. If you want to invite more people than your venue can hold have 2 separate lists. The A list would be everyone that you must invite and the B list would be those you'd like to invite but do not yet have room for. Send out all A invites and when you begin to receive responses, note how many no's you receive. You can then send out B invites depending on the numbers. NEVER let your guests know about this list though. It is a great way to keep track of everyone and gives you a chance to invite people you thought you might not be able to.
4. Fun ways to include your guests. Many couples are enclosing song request cards with their invitations. Guests can jot down a song they would like to hear at the reception. It is a great way to get them involved before the big day. Or ask guests to write down a memory of you and the groom or words of wisdom and this could be incorporated into a scrapbook after the wedding.
5. Enlist help. Have someone help put it all together. Make a day out of it or separate it a few hours a day. Have some drinks, but not near the invitations...don't want any spills. Just make it fun and relax but organization is key. Have all addresses ready and everything you need to make sure the process goes smoothly.

Flowerless centerpieces may not work for all brides but there is so much that can be done it will win everyone over. The options are literally endless and can be tailored to fit any couple.
Depending on the season in which you're getting married you can use fruit; apples and citrus are always popular choices. But there are so many others that have such striking colors or shapes. Opt for cherries, starfruit, apricots, peaches...not only will it be eye catching but mouth watering at the same time. Think colorful food in general for a centerpiece. Perhaps chili peppers or even split peas surrounding the base of a candle. Gourds are always a great option as well.
Fruit not really your thing? How about using framed photos of you and the groom or photos from loved ones weddings. Black and white photos just have a romantic feel to them, but switch up the frames and sizes to keep things interesting. If the seating is assigned think about having photos at specific tables, photos with friends at their table will be great convo starters and photos of your parents or grandparents wedding at relative tables will be a sweet gesture.
Looking for a rustic and outdoorsy vibe...think mason jars, lanterns, birch bark, wheat and pine cones. A simple bundle of wheat tied with ribbon looks fresh but a down home feel at the same time. Fall leaves look elegant when stacked in a hurricane candle holder. The choices are limitless!!
Feathers, crystals and even ornaments can give your tables a hip feel. Peacock feathers are a great choice and can be incorporated into the bouquets to keep the theme consistent. Crystals can be strewn on branches or scattered on the table, either way the light they reflect is gorgeous. Seaglass is a fun option; it comes in a variety of colors and looks great! Don't let the Christmas tree have all the fun, use ornaments in a winter wedding. And no, your colors do not have to be green and red. The picture below does include flowers in the centerpiece but either way it is a unique and festive idea.
There are so many ideas for centerpieces and remember flowers do not always have to be a apart of it. Make your centerpieces unique, guests often spend a good portion of the night seated in front of them so they will surely have good things to say about them. Have fun and be creative!

Carnations, baby's breath and salad stations may conjour thoughts of weddings from years past, but what was old is definitely new again!
Carnations, once seen as the prom standby have now become a great choice for brides. Not only are they available all year round and come in a variety of colors, but they are a great cost effective option. The key to pulling off carnations is to pick a bold color, something that is sure to make a splash. They pull double duty as well since they closely resemble peonies which have a very short season.

Not many people would think of having baby's breath as a flower of choice, but surprisingly enough if done right they look amazing. They really capture a romantic and vintage vibe. A wreath of baby's breath is the perfect winter wedding touch. It can stand alone or be paired with other blooms, although pairing it with roses can make it dated.
Simple salad bar, think again. You can make it unique by adding more than just the traditional options. Think about incorporating an olive bar, candied pecans and walnuts and roasted or pickled veggies. As for dressings, vinaigrettes are always a good choice, often light and refreshing and a nice departure from ranch dressing.
While carcicature drawings might remind you of theme parks they are a unique and creative idea for wedding favors. It will not only be memorable but unexpected. It is a fun way to get guests involved and also makes for a great keepsake. While this idea may not be for all brides it is a new spin on wedding favors and entertainment. Just have fun and think of all the endless possibilities there are for your big day!!
