What's hot for 2010

Trends for 2010 range from bold and bright to homespun chic. Anything goes this year!

Wedding Gowns:

  • 1950s Flair think high necklines, big tulle skirts and tea-length a huge trend right now. Really exudes romance from years past. It captures a youthful innocence while still look hot for 2010.

  • Bold one shoulder looks. Statement pieces on one shoulder like a large flower or bow stand out and asymmetrical necklines are key. If you are looking to make an entrance this is definitely the way to go!

  • Flowers add great detail. Small detailed ones covering the dress are eye-catching. Or opt for one large bloom placed at the hip or on a shoulder to stick with the trend. Definitely a fun romantic look.

  • Bows and sashes. Both are very big this year. They can be slouchy or very constructed. If going for a one-shoulder look a bow on the shoulder is a great option. This is definitely a fun look and it is an easy way to incorporate color with a sash.

  • Black detailing in the form of delicate flowers, bold bows or sashes, hemlines. Carry this through other aspects of the wedding to tie it all together. Think black accents in centerpieces and accessories.

  • Shiny statement. Gold and silver touches make for a unique and fashion forward look. Carry the look through with other details in the wedding. Metallics with muted shades are a great look.

  • Sheer straps are very hot for this year. It gives you coverage but is still soft and delicate. Also available in a variety of necklines from v-neck to one-shoulder. It is a sweet but sexy look and very in!

  • It's your big day and as long as you feel fabulous you'll definitely be trendy!

      Catering:

    • Cocktail reception. Have a cocktail party, with heavy hors d'oeuvres and food stations. Keep it fun and interactive, this will have guests up and on their feet the whole night. If going with a dj stick with music that completes the theme.

    • Food stations are a big trend this year. But we're not talking your standard pasta station, think sushi or stir-fry stations. Chefs cooking up made to order meals are a great option. We tried out our own version during a recent event and it was a huge success! Guests get to choose what the want and it will keep them coming back for more.

    • Plan on having a reception that goes into the wee hours? Have some late night treats for guests. Milk and cookies, serve the milk in high ball glasses with pirouette cookies for updated twist. Or have an ice cream cart with all the fixings. A taco cart is another great option.

    • More than just wedding cake. Many couples are including more desserts to accompany the wedding cake. Chocolate covered strawberries served on ceramic spoons are elegant. Serve a variety of truffles with slices of cake. Or have a dessest station like a s'mores stand. Guests will love the variety of sweets!

    • Reception Ideas:

    • Photo booths are on the rise. They get guests interacting and not only does it make for a great favor but also adds entertainment. Include props for guests to make their photos unique, having a beach wedding...include goggles and beach balls. Old hollywood, feather boas are a great choice.

    • Allover lighting will really wow guests! It will transfrom the room into something completely different. Project shapes, or even leaves falling for a romantic fall wedding. Lighting will add a whole new dimension to your reception.

    • Out of the ordinary music. Treat guests to a new sound, something completely unexpected. Perhaps a jazz trio or Spanish guitarist would be a great way to go. Or if you are having a rustic wedding, maybe a bluegrass band would suit your style. Everyone will be up on their feet for hours to come with any of these choices. This is the year to break the traditional rules of playing it safe with music.

    • Choreographed dances are huge this year. Many couples are looking to surprise guests with unexpected dance numbers. Choose a fun song and head to a local dance choreographer to help put it all together. Maybe even think of getting the bridal party or grandparents involved. It will lighten the mood and definitely bring the fun!
